HOW WE HELP
We reduce the long term effect of poverty on children by equipping them
with the essential items they need for their early years and at school.
At First Days we believe all children deserve the same start in life.
We provide everyday essentials to families who are living in poverty by distributing clothes, toiletries, school uniforms, equipment, furniture, toys and books.
4 million children in the UK are living in households whose income falls below the poverty line. This means that, after they've paid for their housing and utilities, they have just £19 per day to live on - for food, clothes, transport, birthdays and every thing else they might need. At First Days we help families at a time of crisis - when they need something for their children and simply cannot afford it.
We can now accept all of your children’s clothes donations every
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10am-2pm at our warehouse.
We are also open one Tuesday a month and one Saturday a month.
The next dates are:
Saturday 29th February 1pm - 3pm
Tuesday 3rd March 4pm - 7:30pm
We need your beautiful, pre-loved, clean clothing to be sorted
into age order with a label attached. You can download the
labels here or we’ll have some ready for you to fill in when you
WE CANNOT ACCEPT DONATIONS THAT ARE NOT CLEAN,
EXCELLENT QUALITY AND LABELLED.
Why do we need your help sorting your stuff?
We process over 20 tonnes of clothes through our warehouse every year. Thats around 120,000 items of clothing for our volunteers to check and sort and prepare for a new family. Unfortunately around 4 tonnes (24,000 items!) of things that are donated are not good enough quality for us to pass on. It’s really important that we gift families with good quality clothing that will last for their children. We are working really hard to help as many families as we can - your help with sorting donations will make a huge difference to us - it means our volunteers can spend their time getting things ready and out to families who need them as quickly as possible. Thank you!
All other donations of shoes, equipment, toys and furniture need to come to us in the usual way: Mon-Weds 10-2 at our warehouse in Hurst, and only items from our list.
Please click here for donations we are able to take this month at our warehouse in Hurst.
If you are able to help us with any items we would be very grateful.
To help us manage stock levels, please call ahead if you would like to donate certain larger items. These items are highlighted in green on the donation list. Our number is 0118 921 9338.
Donations of the items on the list can be taken to our office in Hurst only - 2 Broadwater Lane, Hurst, RG10 0EA (Industrial unit next to Turner's Heating & Plumbing).
Our donation opening hours are Monday-Wednesday 10am-2pm.
Please do not leave donations outside the office when we are closed.
If you are donating toys, please be aware that many of the families that we support have very limited space at home - often sharing one single room in temporary accommodation. Please do not be offended if we cannot accept larger toys, as we simply cannot give them to families.
If you don't have anything on our current donation list but would still like to help we have an amazon wishlist to allow our supporters to help us provide items that we vitally need. You can find it online here: http://amzn.eu/ec3212O
